If you get the chance to buy beautiful fresh tuna steak at your local fish market, this Sesame-Spice Ahi Tuna Salad is perhaps the easiest, fastest and most pleasing dish you’ve ever prepared. All you need to do is chop the veggies, coat the tuna with a magical sesame-spice mix and seared for a minute on each side. Voilà!
Serves 2
1 fresh tuna steak
4 tbsp tamari (or any soy sauce is fine)
1 Romaine heart, chopped
1/3 English Cucumber, thinly sliced
2 large radishes, thinly sliced
1/4 red onion, thinly chopped
1/4 red capsicum, thinly chopped
1/4 yellow capsicum, thinly chopped
8 cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 can of corn
1/3 cup pine seeds
3 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano dried
1 tsp thyme dried
1 tsp basil dried
2 tsp white sesame
2 tsp black sesame
Tamari sauce for dipping
1. Chop romaine. Thinly slice cucumber and radishes. Thinly chop red onion, red capsicum and yellow capsicum. Halve cherry tomatoes. Place everything into a large mixing bowl.
2. Add corn, pine seeds, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Combine well and set aside.
3. Mix all sesame-spices ingredients into a deep plate.
4. Pad dry the tuna steak with a paper towel (do not rinse).
5. Dip the tuna into Tamari sauce (both sides), then press into the sesame-spice mix on each side.
6. Place a cast-iron skillet or non-stick fry pan over high heat with a dash of olive oil.
7. Sear the tuna for 1 minute on each side.
8. Remove the steaks onto a chopping board
9. Slice tuna with a large sharp knife, and place slices over the salad.
